DSE English Paper 1 經常被認為是無法進步的份卷，因為它很考考生的英文實力，懂得的生字句式足夠與否。不過，英文卷一其實不是純靠英文理解能力，英文底子一般的考生一樣可以有lvl 5+！
DSE 英文卷一 閱讀卷考試模式
DSE 英文卷一總共考試時間1小時30分鐘，佔英文科總分的20%。考生需要完成兩部份的英文閱讀理解，包括：Part A 必答部份(10%)和Part B1/B2 選答部份(10%)。按難度而言，B1比Part A容易；B2比Part A困難。正因如此，選答Part B1的考生最多只能在卷一拿到lvl 4的成績。
應該選擇B1還是B2
根據 2012 至 2023 年的 DSE 英文試卷一考生作答數據，選擇 B1 的學生比例每年都在下降。這說明 B1「保守攞4」的策略已經不靠譜。
真正劃分 Level 5、5* 和 5** 的題型主要集中在 B2 的某一兩條長題目上。即使考生不太熟悉這些題目，也不至於要放棄整個 Part B2。
拿到5**的考生也不是全對，甚至有考生答錯10分依然拿到5**
因此，從「可取分數」及「可取等級」的角度來看，B2比B1 划算。
如果考生只想在卷一取得lvl 2或lvl 3的成績，B1的確是比較容易做到的。
DSE英文paper 1時間
英文卷一時間分配
DSE英文reading時間總長1小時30分鐘。時間分配應該如下：
Part A + Part B2
- Part A: 35 分鐘
- Part B2: 45 – 50 分鐘
- 覆卷: 5 – 10 分鐘
Part A + Part B2 但知道自己必然不會做對Part B2較難的題目
記住Part A 和Part B 佔分相同。
那麼，如果同學選擇回答 Part B2，而又知道自己幾乎不可能完成 Part B2，那麼不如花更多時間做好 Part A，穩穩取分！
- Part A: 45 分鐘
- Part B2: 35 – 40 分鐘
- 覆卷: 5 – 10 分鐘
有些考生可能花10分鐘也做不對Part B2的某些題目，在這種情況下直接放棄可能是更佳的抉擇！
還是那句，您不需要全對依然可以高分！

如果考生選答Part A+B1，
Part A：40-50分鐘
Part B1：大約40分鐘

順序閱讀：DSE 閱讀題目通常按照文章順序出現，因此建議您按照文章順序進行答題。例如：Q2的答案在第3段，Q4的答案在第5段，那麼Q3的答案很大機會在第4段。
文章大意題：除了文章大意題外，其他題型都適用順序閱讀策略。因此，在閱讀完每一段後，請用簡潔的文字寫下該段的文章大意。
DSE 英文 Paper 1 題型
眾所周知，Reading卷的題目有：
- 選擇題 (MC)
- 是非題 (T/F)
- 配對題 (Matching)
- 摘要填充題 (Summary Cloze)
- 短答題 (Short Question) / 長答題 (Long Question) (SQ/LQ)
不過，若果談到題型，我們可以從另一個角度看待！
Reading Skills 1：Summary Cloze
英文卷一的題型非常多樣，但有些題型確實經常出現。讓小編來講解一下填充題（Summary Cloze）的技巧。
Step 1：Part of Speech
請考生先確定每個空格的Part of Speech 詞性。
基本上詞性來來去去都是那幾個，包括：Noun、Verb、Adjective、Adverb、Preposition等。
其中Noun與Verb最常見。
每個詞性都有大量陷阱讓大家寫中詞語但錯grammar。
例如：
- Noun 有沒有s？
- Verb 應用什麼Tense？
- Adjective 還是 Adverb？
判別原則：
n. | 句子開頭 preposition後面 that後面 代名詞(his, my, etc.)後面 |
v. | 主語/名詞後面 to後面 情態動詞後面 who/which/that後面 |
adj. | 名詞前面 is/am/are/was/were/be /been後面 |
adv. | 動詞前面 動詞後面 句子最尾 形容詞或另一個副詞的前面 |
Prep. | 動詞之後/名詞之前 |

Step 2：從原文找答案
考生可以從題目的空附近的關鍵字確定答案的大概位置。
然後將意思有可疑的字眼放進空格，看看意思是否合理。
Step 3：Grammar
當同學找到答案的字時，記住要確保文法正確。
因此，Step 1才會叫大家確定空格的Part of Speech。

Step 1：確定Part of Speech
“my” pronoun之後 “be” verb之前。這最有可能是Noun。而且是“Some of my”所以應該是眾數。
Step 2：從原文找答案
原文：“he penned from the 1990s to now”
題目：I used to … by drawing comics.
意思近了！
附近有什麼可疑的字眼？
“story”, “illustrations”
代入“story”，但不配“drawing comics”
而且順帶一提，今次題目是writing one word taken from paragraphs。
story 本身在文法已經不配，因為”Some of my”
代入”illustrations”，與“comics”相配，意思就合理了。
Step 3：Grammar
- 是次答案推斷為noun，“illustrations”是不是noun？是
- 是次答案是眾數，“illustrations”是不是眾數？是
那麼“illustrations”應該就是答案！
Reading Skill 2：Reference
這種題目就是類似：
- What is the definition of the term ‘it’?
- Who are the individuals referred to as ‘these people’?
- The term ‘here’ means…
- The term “the problem” refers to…
Step 1：判斷答案性質
答案性質可以包括：
- 字數
- 單數/眾數
- 人物
- 動物
- 死物
- 句子
例如：
- The term “which” refers to…
(which 可代表死物或句子) - The term “this” refers to…
(“This” 代表整個句子)
Step 2：向前找答案
這些reference題目，尤其pronoun都是refer to一些已經出現的字眼。
Step 3：代入法
與其想哪一個才是正確答案，不如當MC題來做，逐個代入有可疑的答案。

因此無法確定答案是人還是物。
不過，”They”就證明了答案要是眾數！
Step 2：向前找答案
在“They”前面有什麼可疑答案呢？
“printed materials”, “medium”, “convenience store chains”, “independent street operators”
Step 3：代入答案
- Printed materials charge higher fees…
Print出來的死物竟然可以主動地charge錢？不太合理 - Medium charge higher fees…
同樣，一個媒介可以主動地charge錢？不太合理 - Convenience store chains charge higher fees…
連鎖店charge人錢？這個就比較合理。 - independent street operators charge higher fees…獨立街頭經營者charge人錢？這個也比較合理。
不過，後面”have content stocked in their stores” street operators好端端會與stores扯上關係？比較不太合理。
相反，Convenience store chains 本身就是連鎖店，就是”store”。這個”have content stocked in their stores”好像比較合理
因此，答案應該是“Convenience store chains”
Reading skills 3：近義詞 / 反義詞
這種題目就是類似：
- Look for a word or expression in the text that signifies “XXX.”
- Look for an expression in the text that signifies “XXX.”
- In each space, write one word that has the same meaning as one of the following:
- Look for words in lines 1–8 that the following could substitute for:

應不應該 Paraphrase Answer？
在閱讀理解長題中，是應該參考題目或文章內的關鍵字來回答問題，還是自己用自己的文字進行改述？
小編的答案是你應該參考題目或文章內的關鍵字來回答問題。就算抄寫重點字眼代表你的能力較低，也不代表拿不到分。
現在是考公開試，不是文學寫作。
答案本身應該要遵從文章的用字，這樣在香港中學文憑考試（DSE）英語試卷一中可以更容易獲得高分。
不明白生字
其實，正常考生根本沒有可能知道閱讀理解原文中的所有詞彙。
不過，不明生字也不代表一定會失分。
首先，可能那些深字根本與題目無關。
其次，就算真的有關，深字前後的句子也可以幫助到您推測深字的意思。
第三，只要考生能夠鎖定答案在某一句中，那麼全句抄已經解決，不需要理解其深字。
答案錯grammar就會否扣分？
這視乎題目種類決定，如果是長題目，少少的grammar問題是不會扣分的，只要那個grammar錯誤不至於影響句子意思。
不過對於其他題目，例如：summary cloze等grammar就變得非常重要，因為錯grammar是可以不給分的。
DSE 英文 Paper 1 練習
小編強烈建議不要購買其他出版社的補充練習，因為它們的思維方式和考評局的要求非常不同。這些練習只是模仿過去試題的字詞和句式，但缺乏相應的技巧和策略。
