2013 DSE English Paper 3 Task 8 Lvl 5+ 答案
Paragraph 1
Tourism in Hong Kong nowadays is very popular. Many people travel from different places to Hong Kong. But how was the situation like when it came to the 1920s? We’ve invited the manager from Dragon Hotel to tell us more about that.
Paragraph 2
In fact, tourism and travel in Hong Kong in the past were completely different from nowadays, no matter in transportation, the way people traveled, and the length of time spent traveling.
Paragraph 3
In terms of transportation, people in the 1920s used to travel by ships or trains as there were no airplanes at that time. Besides, Dragon Hotel used to have “horse and carriage” as their means of transport to travel from one place to another. That is really hard to imagine!
Paragraph 4
About how people traveled in the past, only the rich and glamorous people could afford the expensive and luxurious travel. Also, only rich people would have the time to travel. The length of the journey was long.
It is said that Dragon Hotel even offered extra rooms for servants as they followed their masters while traveling at that time. The tourists used to have a lot of luggage as they brought many outfits for dinner. But now, the amount of luggage has been reduced.
For the length of time in traveling in the past, people used to have long journeys as transportation was slow. People used to spend 6 weeks to travel from London to Hong Kong on ships! That was really challenging.
Apart from traveling in the past, let’s talk about the things tourists did in Hong Kong.
Paragraph 5
People used to dance in hotels after dinner, and ladies wore beautiful clothes for dancing. This was a common activity among the rich. Another special case is that people came to Hong Kong for tiger hunting! In the 1920s, tourists from North America used to come to Hong Kong for tiger hunting in the New Territories! That’s really interesting! As time goes by, the price and cost of traveling decrease, and traveling becomes a common activity among people. I hope that we can treasure the time and learn more things during our journey!

2013 DSE English Paper 3 Task 10 Lvl 5+ 答案
Paragraph 1
Nowadays, tourism is common around the world, and many people start to travel to the places they would like to visit. In the March issue of our magazine, we received a letter from Kevin Hui expressing his opinion on the effects of tourism. He stated that he observes the negative effects of tourism and used the example of a “lost tribe” to illustrate his stance. However, does tourism only bring negative effects to countries?
Paragraph 2
In fact, tourism brings a lot of positive effects to countries.
Paragraph 3
First of all, local people and tourists can help each other out. Once, I heard about a young man from Turkey named Yusuf who came to the Sauris village and helped them create a village webpage. Therefore, tourists can get a lot of information about the village that visitors can read. Additionally, there was a nice lady named Mrs. Jessica Glasser who visited Sauvi and wrote down some of the stories, helping the locals to publish them. This reflects that both locals and tourists help each other during tourism, which is a good thing. The locals can also learn languages from tourists, further improving their skills.
Paragraph 4
On the other hand, tourism also helps to preserve the local culture. A typical example is the traditional dance from Thailand. In the past, the dance was almost disappearing in the country but has now resurfaced in hotels to attract tourists. Nowadays, there are even competitions and performances of the dance. This shows that tourism can help the place to keep its culture alive.
Paragraph 5
Also, tourism can contribute to the country’s development. With a larger number of tourists, more jobs will be provided for the locals. As a result, their living standards and quality of life will be enhanced. Moreover, the government can use the profits from tourism to build more infrastructure like better roads and hospitals for the citizens, thus improving their quality of life. By then, cleaner water and better healthcare can be accessed by people too! This really helps the development of the place, region, or country. Besides, the government can also allocate the money into education. With more government revenue, more funds can be used to provide education to locals, enhancing the productivity of the country.
Paragraph 6
Although there are still some negative effects, such as the potential overdependence of locals on tourists and the possibility of changing local culture, I think the positive effects brought by tourism are also significant.
Paragraph 7
I’m sure that we, as tourists, can turn the negative impacts into positive ones. So, let’s be encouraging and helpful tourists!
