Task 8: Report on Brighthouse Cinema

Write the report on Brighthouse Cinema using information from the B2 Data File and your notes. Write around 180 words.

Report on the Brignton Cinema in Sha Tak

Information

The Brighthouse Cinema is temporarily chosen for the venue for screening of “The Electronic Durian” and the post-screening discussion on 19th June, Wednesday. For the stage, the stage or past discussion has to have a minimum size of depth more than 4 meters and length more than 20 meters. Besides that, due to the director Isabel Luna’s skateboarding accident, a wheelchair ramp to access onto the stage is important. Also, to make the audience’s experience more fun, we would like to give out goodies to the audience for the “metal noodle scene.” As well as needing at least 10 ushers to help and give out 3D headsets to avoid any delay.

Facilities in the Brighthouse Cinema

The building has a 70s design which has wheelchair access into the auditorium for audiences. The stage is designed as black and gold, which is stylish and classic with a little cherub icon on the ceiling. The stage fits our minimum size but does not have wheelchair access for the stage. With all exit signs and emergency exits in English only, all bright and working properly. Unfortunately, no outside food is allowed at the Brighthouse Cinema, which would be a big loss to the cinema experience. Additionally, the Brighthouse only has 4 ushers available and is unable to provide more.

Disadvantages of the Brighthouse Cinema

The cinema is temporarily chosen due to its low cost, which is within the festival budget. However, the suitability of the Brighthouse Cinema is questionable since it failed the government hygiene inspection in 2016 and lost its license for 12 months. Firstly, it is stated in the Government Cross-departmental Regulations for cinemas and theatres that cinemas must be cleaned at least once per day and ensure that all rubbish is removed after each screening. Unfortunately, the Brighthouse Cinema fails to meet the first part of the regulation by just having one cleaning per 2 days.

The Brighthouse Cinema also fails the Safety and Evacuation regulations by only having English signage and not having illuminated signs bearing the word “Exit” in both English and Chinese. Additionally, the exits must be free of obstructions to ensure orderly evacuation.

Conclusion

TThe Brighthouse Cinema is not preferred as the venue due to its lack of facilities and inability to meet our requirements such as wheelchair access, restrictions on outside food, and insufficient number of ushers. Moreover, it has failed the government inspection and has not made improvements since then. To ensure a fun and safe experience for our audience, I strongly disagree with choosing the Brighthouse Cinema as the venue, and we should consider other options.

2019 DSE English Paper 3 Task 10 Lvl 5+ 答案

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

Paragraph 1

I am Nico Lin, the secretary for the Inter-School Visual Media Society. Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for coming to the screening of “The Electronic Durian.” I hope you have enjoyed the film. Having this precious opportunity to share my opinions before the discussions, I would like to share my views on whether people prefer going to the cinema or staying at home, as well as the arguments between blockbusters and low-budget films.

Paragraph 2

First of all, due to the development of technology, people are able to enjoy movies on their electronic devices and through different apps like Netflix, which provides over 100 movies for people to enjoy at home. They are also able to control the speed and pause the film whenever they want. Many of us have said that TVs are going to destroy the cinema since even 3D headsets can be used at home and allow us to have a fantastic experience without bothering to go to the cinema.

Paragraph 3

Although staying at home can be much more comfortable, humans still need shared experiences, to laugh and interact with others rather than staying at home all alone. So, what is your choice? Do you prefer staying at home or going to the cinema with your family and friends?

Paragraph 4

Secondly, I would like to discuss the problem of blockbusters and low-budget films. Most big studios prefer creating blockbusters since it generates more profits for them. The big studios will put multi-million on advertisements, especially on “Star Wars” and “Marvel series.” Low-budget films cannot even compete against them.

Paragraph 5

On the other hand, actually, low-budget independent films can still get showcased in mainstream cinemas since they are in direct competition with big studio blockbusters. And through these low-budget films, big studios are able to discover talented directors, so it is one of the major reasons why low-budget films have to continue. Also, innovations and technology also create opportunities for them to explore different VR techniques compared to big studios paying cafe.
